What is marketing?

Given that this is our first blog here at Mercury Marketing, we figured it'd be smart to start with the basics - what is marketing, anyway? And why is it crucial for the success of your business?

Marketing is a creative process in which we identify our customers' existing and future needs and persuade them that our product or service will fill those needs. You have a great product or service to share with the world - but first, you have to let the world know that you exist!

And, of course, there are multiple aspects of marketing. Once you understand your clients, you should ask yourself: How do I want to present myself and my product to people? What do I wish to convey? Image matters!

Another important factor is placement of your message. What advertising venues are you using? This is a very good time to be an entrepreneur. Technology means that a person can beam their message across the planet ... literally! You have billions of potential clients and networking contacts at the end of your fingertips (and your modem).
